]]>2006-07-28 10:08:31.696165 <![CDATA[Space was Incredible!]]>I'm stunned how much fun was had at Space in Ibiza this season... and it's just now getting really HOT. The outside dance floor was recently renovated and reconfigured (not that I noticed much after about 30 minutes -- the entire place folded into itself and left me floating). The crowd was so much fun, and diverse. That's what I love about Ibiza -- men, women, straight, gay, drugged out club kids and retired clubbers. Everyone is welcome, and nobody cares.

David Guetta was the highpoint for me. He played Space, along with about a dozen super hot DJs from around the world. Guetta introduced a new song: ?Love Don?t Let Me Go? which is a remix of The Egg's hit. It's not available for download yet -- August 14.

]]>2006-07-27 16:41:00.412412 <![CDATA[Opening Party in Ibiza]]>Every year I dream of a pilgramage to Ibiza for the Opening Party at Space nightclub. ("Nightclub" is a misnomer, because Space opens aat 8:00 AM, and is best during the afternoon, on the Patio!) Opening this year is June 4.

The DJ list is like a Who's Who of the clubbers hall of fame. Major heavy hitters!

]]>2006-05-24 23:23:21.65447 <![CDATA[Nothing Comes Between Me and My iPod]]>Looks like Levi Strauss is trying to squeez a little extra money out of the youth market. If baggy crack-bearing jeans were not your style, now you can buy iPod enabled jeans.

I happen to own a ski jacket that has a nifty external pocket for my iPod, and built in headphones in the hood. And I've been eyeing a pair of goggles that have a built-in MP3 player. I justify the expense because I do a lot of snowboarding (Whistler here I come!). But would I really pay a hundered bucks for another pocket in my 501s, when I still don't know what to do with that tiny 5th lint catcher?

Here's an excerpt from the CNN story...

Denim giant Levi Strauss said Tuesday it had designed jeans compatible with the iPod music player, featuring a joystick in the watch pocket to operate the device.

The Levi's RedWire DLX Jeans for men and women, which will be available this fall, also have a built-in docking cradle for the iPod and retractable headphones. Pricing was not immediately available....

Levi's is not the first company to feature iPod-friendly apparel, although it may be the first to make iPod-compatible jeans.

Haute couture fashion houses began featuring pricey iPod carrying cases after the device's 2001 launch, while outdoor company Burton Snowboards unveiled what it called the first iPod-compatible waterproof snowboarding jacket in 2003.

Last fall Los Angeles-based manufacturer Kenpo launched men's jackets selling at Macy's for between $275 and $350, featuring iPod controls on the sleeve.

]]>2006-01-24 16:17:14.988986 <![CDATA[Why I Love The French]]>The Associated Press reported that French politicians voted to "endorse" P2P file sharing. Well, the French are never afraid to oppose conventional wisdom... Here's and excerpt from the AP story.

A French government crackdown on digital piracy backfired Thursday as lawmakers rebelled by endorsing amendments to legalize the online sharing of music and movies instead of punishing it.

The vote by members of France's lower house dealt a setback to Culture Minister Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres, who introduced the draft legislation. Showbiz and cultural celebrities protested the latest move, an indication that the amendments' supporters may eventually have to back down.


Under the original proposals, those caught pirating copy-protected material would have faced $360,000 in fines and up to three years in jail.

An 11th-hour government offer to give illegal downloaders two warnings prior to prosecution was not enough to stem the rebellion. Instead, the amendments voted would legalize file-sharing by anyone paying a monthly royalties duty estimated at $8.50.

Music labels and movie distributors have suggested the amendments would break international laws on intellectual property, and French actors and musicians lined up to condemn the surprise vote.

"To legalize the downloading of our music, almost free of charge, is to kill our work," venerable rocker Johnny Hallyday said in a statement.

... But UFC-Que Choisir, France's largest consumer group, said the plan would create a "new area of freedom allowing Internet users access to cultural diversity and fair payment for creators."
