A day in the life of a landlord
So I stopped by my rental last night to pick up the rent check and my tenants brought up a couple issues with the house that I have to jump on and take care of now.
First, they hooked up the water hose to the back of the fridge so the ice maker would work (which I am pretty sure I told them not to do because I was worried about it leaking) and of course, it leaked. It wouldn't be a big deal if I had linoleum, tile, or some high quality hard wood flooring in there, but no...I've got Pergo laminate. So when water gets under it it swells up and the water spreads out underneath it between the laminate and the sub-floor....could be a big, nasty repair process.
Second, they pointed out that there is some mildew growing on an interior wall near the window in the master bedroom...I'm like WTF? So I have a home inspector coming and looking for leaks. I have noticed since the day that I bought that home that this particular window always had moisture on it, hopefully it's just an airflow issue and not a leaky roof.
Well, I guess that's pretty much all that have to worry about right this second, but still, it would be nice if, as a landlord, all I had to do was collect rent. But still, it's a great home and it's been a great investment. So, you just have to roll with the punches. Plus, these tenants are 1000% cooler/better/cleaner than my last tenants. So that's worth something right there.
Happy Friday!
