Student Wants to 'Rent' a Girlfriend

BEIJING (AP) -- A desperate Chinese university student wants to "rent" a girlfriend for 10 days so he can show her off to his parents over the Lunar New Year holiday, state media reported Wednesday.
The physics student, who gave his name as Zhu Lijie, posted a notice on a bulletin board at Peking University offering 1,000 yuan ($130) to a woman who would pose as his girlfriend for the trip home for the holiday, Xinhua News Agency reported.
The advertisement said the woman should be "an honest, kind and similar-aged girl with a diploma."
The Lunar New Year holiday, which starts Feb. 18 this year, is the most important family holiday in China.
Xinhua said Zhu had told his parents, who were pressuring him to get a girlfriend, that he had been studying too hard and had no time to meet a potential partner.
Peking University officials and the police have warned women to be wary of such advertisements.
Wang Jisheng, a professor with the Psychology Institution of the Chinese Academy Sciences, was quoted as saying Zhu was trying to show filial piety to his parents but was only cheating them.

The latest update is that we’ve broken the $20.000 barrier! It’s amazing! Also, we’re hereby officially telling you all that we have to go for plan B - buying our own island and trying to claim it as our own nation. The Sealand goverment has not been answering e-mails lately and we take that as a sign of not being willing to discuss our venture.

I was sitting around waiting for Battlestar Galactica this evening watching Iron Chef America. I had seen the commercials for tonight's episode, and it looked neat so I set it up to record. Towards the end, when they're going over the iron chef and the challenger's entries a McDonalds logo popped up for a single frame.
It was pretty obvious at the time because the screen flashes red, I didn't recognize it instantly as the McDonalds logo when I watched it at full speed. I did notice SOMETHING though, and upon rewinding, sure enough... the Food Network is running subliminal advertisements.
Here's the advertisement running both frame by frame and in real time. Once you're aware of it, you can clearly see the logo pop up when it is played at normal speed.
