Reminiscing the Starbucks Chantico.
I ran accross a website describing Starbuck's discontinued Chantico drink and was suddenly overwhelmed with saddness. It was my favorite thing to get at Starbucks, my friends and I used to hang out there all the time and I, the devoted chocolate lover, was always faithful. Ane then one day, without warning, it disappeared from their menus. When some research, I have finally been able to uncover the mystery behind my most missed Starbucks beverage.
The Chantico was pretty much a very, very concentrated hot chocolate drink. It only came in a 6 ounce cup, and tasted like sipping on liquid truffles and heaven. It was so rich that you could only take little sips at a time, but just one sip would tantalize your whole mouth and every sweet taste bud. I would get one and it would last me longer than anyone else's lattes. Starbucks introduced it as their "drinkable dessert". And I just found out that each cup was 390 calories (yikes!)
Starbucks introduced it January of 2005 and sadly, stopped selling it a year later in Feburary of 2006.
Some say the Chantico's failure may be due in part to its low sales during the summer months. Other say that it was due to the fact that it was available without any variations (only one size, flavor, etc) and Starbucks customers were too used to dictating their drinks to grow accustomed to it.
Nowadays I just get regular dark roast drip coffee with room at Starbucks. Adieu, Adieu my dear Chantico.
