I thought I would throw in my (late) list of favorites from 2007.

Albums

1. Boxer by The National
2. In Rainbows by Radiohead
3. Person Pitch by Panda Bear
4. Raising Sand by Alison Krauss and Robert Plant
5. Neon Bible by The Arcade Fire
6. Shepherd Dog by Iron & Wine
7. Armchair Apocrypha by Andrew Bird
8. The Reminder by Feist
9. For Emma, Forever Ago by Bon Iver
10.Tones of Town by Field Music

There are other notables but this list includes most of the albums that most frequently kept my ears company this past year.

The National

Groups such as Wilco and the Jayhawks helped introduce roots rock to a new audience during the 90s, and in the process, paved the way for future similarly styled outfits like the National. The five-piece band is comprised of two sets of brothers, Bry…

Radiohead

Radiohead burst onto the Britpop scene in the early 1990s with a clamorous, post-U2 take on guitar rock, buoyed by the hit "Creep." They subsequently developed their songwriting and production skills on THE BENDS and achieved iconic status with their…

Alison Krauss

In the '90s, no contemporary artist loomed larger in the world of bluegrass than Alison Krauss. With her group Union Station, the young singer/fiddler (who began as a child prodigy) spent the decade bringing traditional bluegrass roots into the mains…

Robert Plant

Even if Robert Plant had disappeared after the demise of Led Zeppelin, he's still be lauded as one of rock's greatest vocalists. The fact that he had a healthy post-Zep solo career that owed little to past glories is a testament to his own artistic f…

The Arcade Fire

One of the most celebrated new bands of 2004, the Arcade Fire came out of Montreal's vibrant music scene with a melancholic, cinematic sound equally redolent of '80s heroes like the Cure and Echo & the Bunnymen and latter-day orchestral-rockers Mercu…

Iron & Wine

Iron & Wine is the artistic alias of Florida singer/songwriter Sam Beam, who crafts delicate songs full of poetic lyrics and simple, haunting melodies. Beam delivers his tunes in a hushed, Nick Drake-like voice and frames them with spare, mostly acou…

Arcade Fire and Robert Plant/Alison Krauss are in my top 10 too! I can also recommend 'Lady's Bridge' by Richard Hawley and 'Memory almost full' by Paul McCartney!
