Going Vegetarian?

~ March 28, 2008 at 13:10 by oregon_strand (Views: 75)

OK, I'm not sure why but lately I've been really shying away from eating meat as much as possible... the problem with going vegetarian with me is I'm not big on vegies either. Isn't there something between meats and vegetables, oh is it fruit? Maybe I can become a fruitarian and start a new fad... fruit must have just as much to offer as vegetables and I like must fruits. Do vegetarians eat things made with eggs? Not sure where to go from here... and seems that I'm not cut out to be a vegetarian any advice oh knowledgeable one? --- Meat is Disgusting Lately ---

There are several levels of being a vegetarian.

When I was Vegetarian for 10 years, I ate Eggs, Nuts, Tofu, and Tempeh. So I guess I was a "Lacto-ovo vegetarian". Let me turn you on to the delights of Sesame Tempeh from China Delight!!!

I was wondering how that worked with eggs and dairy etc. Hard to get around that in lots of foods.

Fruititarians unite! I could never go all vegetarian, but I could be a fruititarian. From talking to friends who have tried being vegetarian they expressed that they were lacking some of the nutrients they needed.

Any actual, real-life vegetarians out there to give some input???

I've memorized the terminology of vegetarianism but I don't really know anything about it...except that it CAN be done in a healthy way. But I would never do it myself...I love my chicken, steaks, etc..

It's really hard to give up the meat. I've been eating one meal with and one without and just having ceral or bagel for breakfast. Yesterday I didn't have any meat for lunch but had porkchops for dinner. Today I'm doing a chicken & steak mix taco and having veggies for dinner. Not sure how long I can do it, but I'll do this for awhile until I decide to take the plunge into veggieville.

If giving up meat takes effort, why do it? I would understand if it was due to healthy complications but I just don't get it. I don't eat much meat myself since I don't cook (and most meat require cooking) , I rarely ever have meat in the mornings, lunch is random and dinner I usually go out. The way I see it, the more you avoid eating something, the more you will want it eventually. I can go days without meat unconsciously because I like to snack on almonds, and smear peanut butter on apples, bagels, etc. which is protein as well. Getting by without dairy is pretty simple, I know this for a fact since most of my family and roommates were all lactose intolerant. SOY MILK! :-D

Well two reasons really. First I believe it is a healthier life style if you can do it and second the way the gas prices are going I can grow my friuts and vegitables if they become to expensive, but I'm not into raising animals to slaughter and eat and I'm not a hunter. The only shooting I do is with my camera.

Eating meat is perfectly healthy! lol as for growing your own food because gas prices are going up...that's funny! A bit dramatic? ;-)

Just being prepared when the truckers go on strike because they refuse to deliver the goods because the price for gas is to high... :():

No worries, our government will help us out and everyone will be happy once again in the land of Oz and the price of gas will come down to 35 cents a gallon. Of course that will be after we all have electic cars... :)
