Beyond Barbie

~ January 7, 2008 at 8:03 by tiramisu (Views: 97 )

I'm having fond memories this morning of these great not-Barbie dolls from the 1970s. I can't even count the hours I spent playing with these as a kid. I still have them all, except for the mysteriously missing Dorothy Hamill, in a box in the basement. Her skating costume, skates and even her teeny gold medal are there, but she's not. I love the quality 70s garb on the Charlie's Angels dolls. Those jumpsuits were a complete pain in the rear to get on and off. And how is it that, in spite of the fact that Kate Jackson was perfectly good-looking in real life, they managed to make her doll look like a total dog? Nice leggings and oversized sweater on Brooke Shields, too, but it was the height of fashion then. (Come to think of it, I believe she was an 80s creation, not from the 70s.) And, oh, that Sunshine Family - I just loved these dolls, especially the baby and, for some reason, the grandfather.

Marc Anthony and Pussyfoot

Does anyone else remember these Warner Bros. characters? I loved these cartoons as a kid, especially the one that takes place on the construction site. How cute is that kitten?

Such a good movie. (At least in my memory.)

Mr. Men and Little Miss

~ November 19, 2007 at 7:36 by tiramisu (Views: 49 )

I had a bunch of these books when I was a kid, although the "Little Miss" stories weren't available until I was really too old for them. (Unfair!) They were just stories with simple lessons and even simpler artwork, but they appealed to me. I was pleased to see this morning that not only are the books still available, but the characters are going to start airing in an animated series on The Cartoon Network this February. Not that I get The Cartoon Network, but it always makes me feel just a tad younger when things I liked as a kid turn out to still be current. The website is here: Mr. Men. Although Mr. Bump and Mr. Quiet are my favorites, the site is worth a look just for the gleefully evil laugh of Little Miss Naughty.

Good movie, good game, for a good time on that great 80's party fave....
