Beyond Barbie
I'm having fond memories this morning of these great not-Barbie dolls from the 1970s. I can't even count the hours I spent playing with these as a kid. I still have them all, except for the mysteriously missing Dorothy Hamill, in a box in the basement. Her skating costume, skates and even her teeny gold medal are there, but she's not. I love the quality 70s garb on the Charlie's Angels dolls. Those jumpsuits were a complete pain in the rear to get on and off. And how is it that, in spite of the fact that Kate Jackson was perfectly good-looking in real life, they managed to make her doll look like a total dog? Nice leggings and oversized sweater on Brooke Shields, too, but it was the height of fashion then. (Come to think of it, I believe she was an 80s creation, not from the 70s.) And, oh, that Sunshine Family - I just loved these dolls, especially the baby and, for some reason, the grandfather.
