Tip of the Week: Sharing with Friends

~ February 6, 2008 at 14:52 by Muzika (Views: 247 )

Let’s not be selfish, alright? When you’ve got something good you should share it!

Whether it is a specific artist’s page, a journal post you’ve seen or authored, or a party someone is hosting through partyStrands, it’s uber easy to instantly send them a link.
Click on either “Share with a friend” or “Recommend to a friend” in the upper right hand corner of whichever MyStrands page you are looking at (just below your avatar), and BLAM! Add recipients directly from your e-mail account, type in individual e-mail addresses (separated by commas of course), or send it to one of your MyStrands contacts. To make them feel extra special, include a personalized message in the last box on the screen and click SEND!

Instantly they will receive a message via MyStrands message or e-mail with the invite... so share the wealth, it's good for you!

Tip of the Week: RSS FEEDS

~ January 29, 2008 at 10:56 by Muzika (Views: 196 )

So you saw something you liked on MyStrands and now you want to stay in the know when things change. Oh what to do, what to do… well, the answer is simple: RSS! RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication, and is a web-feed (or “channel”) to a web address.

Anytime you see the RSS logo (the orange square with white curved lines on it), click it and save it to your bookmarks – that way you can always have access to the information without having to login to the page. I think this is a feature that is WAY under utilized, so I’ll give you an example: One day you click on my profile and like some journals that I had written… well, click on the nearby RSS button and it will load it to your bookmarks. Then when you are sitting at your computer at work you can mouse over your bookmarks and see a drop down menu of my 5 most recent journal entries.

And as always, if you see something you like, use the links below and spread the word:
Digg, Facebook, and De.licio.us

Tip of the Week: Ban Artists!

~ January 22, 2008 at 11:59 by Muzika (Views: 164 )

So you hate Britney Spears? Maybe you don’t like 50 Cent or Eminem. Whoever the artist is that you don’t like, there’s a way that you can avoid having them recommended to you again (even if they fit into a genre that you like getting recommendations from).

From your MyStrands homepage, click on “My Recommendations” just below the MyStrands Tab. On the right hand side of the page you can review your EXILE LIST by clicking on the “Review your Exile List" link. From there you can see the artists and albums on your Exile List, add or remove them. Now you can listen to The Game without hearing 50 Cent, Christina without Britney, or Common without Mos Def.

Don't see anything on the Exile List? Go to your personal recommendations and use the buttons below each recommendation to tell us you either know it or don't like it. You can do this for song, artists, or complete albums (Don't know what a song sounds like? Click on the play button for a sample).

Now you can listen to music and get recommendations without having to manually skip the content you don't like - we'll do the work for you!

Tip of the Week: Embed MyStrands

~ January 18, 2008 at 14:38 by Muzika (Views: 217 )

So you want to tell your friends what you’ve been listening to, huh? Oh, but they don’t have MyStrands? Here’s the plan: A.) Embed the HTML, Flash, or Personalized Indie Radio in your MySpace, Blogger, Live Journal, or whatever other site you are using to connect with others online. B.) Invite them to join!

A.) Go to the Tools Section from MyStrands.com, and it will give you everything you need to insert a Flash Chart, HTML Chart, or Personalized Indie Radio on your site. You can use the Flash Chart to show all your page viewers what you have listened to recently, or you can use the HTML Chart to show your page viewers everything from today’s top artist to your own top songs of the month. Both charts can be customized (size, color, number of items listed). From there, just click “Get the code!” Copy and paste the code into your site, and viola! Now everyone who visits your site will be in the know! BELOW: See the Flash Chart and the Personalized Indie Radio I embeded into my Myspace page.

B.) Invite your friends to join the community! It’s really easy, and it’s on every page of MyStrands. It’s in the top right hand corner: “Recommend to a Friend” Click the link, and choose to add contacts from Gmail, MSN, Yahoo!, Outlook to name a few. It might take a second or two to import your addresses – but then all you have to do it choose the contacts from the list and write them a message. And that’s it! We’ll send them an e-mail with your message in it so they can join the party.

MyStrands.TV on Your Wii

~ December 26, 2007 at 12:12 by musick_in_the_head (Views: 201 )

For those of you that just got a Nintendo Wii for the holidays (or like me you claim to have gotten for your kids but somehow you seem to be the one that is always playing it), I highly recommend that you download the Opera Browser (aka "Internet Channel") for 500 Wii points and then fire up mystrands.tv on it. It works great and now easily brings personalized music into your living room.

MyStrands.com: Now with Quick Launch Video Channels

~ October 22, 2007 at 10:50 by musick_in_the_head (Views: 161 )

We just made it supremely easy for MyStrands users to launch music video channels from every Artist and User page. You will notice a new link on each that says “Watch the <artist/username> Channel on MyStrands.TV”.

Just click the link to open a new tab/window and enjoy the show. For artists, we will launch you into a virtually endless stream of their music videos, interviews and coverage from their live shows. For users, we create the channel based on content they listen to, like, and have not yet discovered yet but we think they will be into. Listen to yours, or listen to someone else’s! Want to know what I’m into, just check it out:

Now so simple even my mother could do it!

Backdate Journal Entries

~ October 18, 2007 at 13:54 by dreness (Views: 209 )

Hello, again. I've got a little used blog on another site, and some random posts and reviews in various other places. I'd like to add some of them to my MyStrands journal. But they're older, well before I started my account.

Would you consider adding the option to back date journal entries?

IM contact info

~ October 10, 2007 at 13:39 by dreness (Views: 229 )

Hello,

When I first registered, I was given the opportunity to list IM handles. And I did, I have AIM. What I don't see is how to make that info public. I don't see it listed on my profile anywhere, and I'm not able to find out if another member has made their IM public.

What am I missing, or is that info not incorporated into the site yet?

Adding a track

~ July 27, 2007 at 6:09 by Framus_Brothers (Views: 217 )

I registered my indie band the Framus Brothers today. However, I've been unable to upload some songs. I saw instructions referring to a page to "Add a track" but I can't locate that page! Please help. Thanks. Bill Robinson
