Early bands of humans hunted and gathered from place to place, sometimes coming to a meadow where grains were ripe, and making beer from them when that happened.
Now imagine some early human who wants to retire. Maybe he or his wife are thinking that the constant trek, trek, trek is just a little too much to take. Where will they decide to settle, eh? Of course, right beside the beer garden! They settle in, maybe learn a little about how to grow grains (maybe even how to raise chickens, eh?); and every so often the old tribe comes by, and everybody has a party. Life is good.
Then somebody else decides to retire. Right next door. And then somebody even younger, and there are some kids who kinda like this easy farming life (Don't examine that too closely). And pretty soon you've got somebody who starts a little business, maybe making beer pots, and somebody who trades their beer for things, and maybe starts trading those things too...
So before you know it, a whole little community has grown up around that barley patch; and that's civilization: Caused by beer.
