Here's an article that does a pretty good job of describing how partyStrands works in the club scene:

A few clarifications: users who join using a MySpace alias don't get links to their MySpace page on the club's party display--but they do get to see their MySpace avatar. Facebook is not yet supported, but Last.FM is.
Also, if a person wants to join using their MySpace info, they must have a public MySpace page, an use the unique name that appears in their MySpace URL
