About ()

The most important decision I make is what CD I'll be listening to in my car. Once I make that decision, that CD stays there for months. As a result, I toil over that decision when it's time to change to something new. I play the drums, and the music I listen to is heavily influenced by the drummer on the recording. I also look for and appreciate other aspects of music, of course, but the drums are the main thing I listen to when I hear a song.

"Back in Black" by AC/DC

~ March 2, 2006 at 22:19 (Views: 112 )

There's no doubt in my mind that AC/DC's Back In Black is one of the best rock 'n' roll albums of all time. However, whenever I think about this album, I think back to 1980 when the album was released.

I was in the 6th grade, and this album was huge at the time. All of my friends had it, and we actually stopped playing air guitar along to Kiss's Alive II (I was always Gene Simmons, so I guess I played air bass) to listen to this album. I was tired of only being able to listen to it at a friend's house, so I asked my parents if I could buy my own copy.

We went to a local album store (and we lived in Southern California at the time, so the local record store felt like it was 45 minutes away in Saturday traffic), and I went right to the cassette tape section to locate a copy of Back In Black . When I found it, I grabbed the most pristine copy I could find, and ran over to my parents so they could look it over. They spent what seemed like an eternity looking it over, and eventually decided that it was okay. We bought it, and I went home with my own very own copy on cassette tape.

Looking at this album now, I can't believe my parents bought this for me. With tracks like What Do You Do For Money Honey, Given The Dog A Bone, Let Me Put My Love Into You, and (to a lesser extent) You Shook Me All Night Long, I have to ask what were my parents thinking? I was 10 years old!
