MyStrands Indie Radio

~ January 22, 2007 at 5:56 (Views: 80 )

Hi MyStranders-
Check out the new MyStrands Indie Radio. There are some real gems in there. Like this one from Jim Boggia:
Live the Proof

Besides listening to some great tunes you can also rate each track anywhere from "It's my favorite!" to "Don't play it again." Ouch! You can also share the news of your new finds with friends via email, and even download the track to your desktop if permitted by the artist.
Hope you enjoy our ever growing catalog of fresh talent.
Best,
Atakan

Kapakahi - SanFran Music Scene

~ December 6, 2006 at 21:15 (Views: 94 )

MyStranders-
I came across the band Kapakahi at the Matrix in SF last night. Very cool band with great reggae/sound. This is how they describe themselves on their MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/kapakahi):

" KAPAKAHI is a four-piece band based out of San Francisco, California ready to bring their brand of high-energy reggae fusion to all. For only being together only a year and a half, they strive to break all genres and show that music can be brought together from all parts of the world. There arent many groups that can fall into their own genre; however, Kapakahi is one group that manages to incorporate all different kinds of sounds and genres into something that is unique to them.

The name KAPAKAHI comes from a Hawaiian term meaning bent, twisted, and consfused; basically all messed up. So jump and rock steady to the cool vibes of KAPAKAHI. We all look forward to seeing you at our next show!!! "

I got their new CD (www.kapakahimusic.com) and would highly recommend it. Below are my favorite tunes:
#3-She could be the one
#6-Stone believer
#8-HuHu
#9-Rush
#11-Better day

Happy listening...

New Discovery: Cafe R&B

~ June 29, 2006 at 2:51 (Views: 147 )

I was in LA this past weekend and ended up at Harvelle's in Santa Monica Saturday night. Harvelle's is a small, unassuming yet stylish blues bar. Turned out a band named Cafe R&B was playing that night. The lead singer was captivating and very very engaged with the crowd...kneeling, jumping, headbanging and really feeling the lyrics deep inside and of course backing up the stage show with great vocals . The band seemed very seasoned too with great, timely solos of their own.
I got their latest album "Blues and All the Rest" after the show. My favorite tracks are "Our Town", "Snatch It Back", "How Long" and "My Love". Highly recommended.

If you are in the area try to catch them. Here's their tour schedule:

Coachella 2006

~ May 8, 2006 at 10:27 (Views: 32 )

I was at Coachella this year and it was a great turn out. Some lucky attendees got free MusicStrands T-shirts ;)
I especially liked the performances by Daft Punk, Depeche Mode, James Blunt and Massive Attack. Experiencing music live is great pleasure despite all the digital conveniences. See you next year!
