The Angry Samoans
Biography
Formed in August 1978, in Van Nuys, California, USA, the Angry Samoans were one of the original Los Angeles punk bands, along with Fear, Black Flag, Circle Jerks and X. The fact that they never achieved quite as much as those other bands can be explained by a disappointingly curt discography. After numerous personnel changes, the most solid line-up consisted of core duo "Metal' Mike Saunders (guitar, vocals) and Gregg Turner (guitar, vocals), plus Todd Homer (bass, vocals), Steve Drojensky (guitar) and Bill Vockeroth (drums). Leaning toward the humorous side of punk in the same way as the Ramones and Dickies, the Samoans" songs featured titles such as "I'm A Pig", "My Old Man's A Fatso", "Attack Of The Mushroom People", and "They Saved Hitler's Cock". Following two EPs and one album for Bad Trip, they laid low for some time, before re-emerging in the late 80s via the auspices of Triple X Records. Saunders released a six-song solo EP as Metal Mike in 1991, before reuniting with Vockeroth to perform under the Angry Samoans banner.
