Biography

b. 18 December 1968, Madrid, Spain. Balladeer and pop singer Alejandro Sanz began recording for WEA Latina in 1991 with Viviendo Deprisa. His fourth long player, 1997's Más, emerged as the success story of 1997 in Spain. Indeed, the album is widely accepted as having been responsible for an increase of 23% in collected music publishing revenues, according to industry association SGAE. By the end of the year the album had sold one million units domestically, and three times that amount throughout Europe and Latin America, and has gone to become the bestselling album of all time in the singer's native country. Unfortunately, Sanz has thus far proved unable to expand his popularity beyond the Latin music world.
