49 Fingers
Description
49 Fingers have a sound ranging from heavy electric guitars to light acoustic guitar and piano, plus everything in between. While the sounds are versatile, there is a cohesiveness that binds them together, consistently driven by irresistible melodies and harmonies. With three songwriters steering the ship, the music stays fresh and will engage you at first listen.
Biography
Launched in 2004 in Albany, Oregon, 49 Fingers came together quickly for Kevin and Dan Kirk, who had the idea to start a band. Melody Murphy, who had contributed vocal work to Dan's side project Epiphora, quickly hopped on board as the voice and lyricist. With everything nearly in place, the band realized that it needed just one more piece to be complete. Enter Bill Smyth, lead guitarist extraordinaire. Bill brought his musical knowledge and blazing fingers to the band when they discovered him at the Albany Civic Theater production of the Rocky Horror Show. The band was complete as of May 2005, and they had twenty songs written and ready to go within two months, with an average of two more written every week. Their first gig came in August, and from there they continue to play and write, surprising audiences wherever they perform.
