Bagels

~ October 30, 2007 at 9:16 (Views: 19 )

We get bagels here at the office and while I usually opt for a cheese bagel, when in the mood for a bagel, I found that today there were none. I didn't want any of the available poppy seed, onion, raisin, or "super colon blow" bagels, so I grabbed an unobtrusive "plain" bagel.

I don't know what flavor it really is, but I'm going to call it "Sawdust."

Great Fundraiser

~ October 19, 2007 at 13:42 (Views: 50 )

There are a couple of gals at a high school in Salina, Kansas who made up some tshirts to sell to raise money for breast cancer research. The school banned them from selling them or wearing them on school property. I think the slogan is brilliant!

Holy Crap, this is a great prank!

Branding/sponsorship is getting out of hand

~ October 16, 2007 at 8:56 (Views: 33 )

As I listened to the sports portion of the KLOO Morning Update, Mike Parker mentioned the "Tostitos Fiesta Bowl" and I actually said out loud, "The 'Tostitos' Fiesta Bowl? It wasn't all that long ago when it was simply 'The Fiesta Bowl'"

More and more I'm seing brands attached to everything in sight. It's no longer The Boston Garden it The Fleet Center. The Lakers play at Staples Center. Pretty soon you won't be able to tell your buddy at the concert/game that your going to take a leak; you'll be relieving yourself at the Ivory Soap Sanitation Station.

Even the games themselves are getting nutty with the branding and sponsors. "Let's take a look at the Nike Play of the Day." I can see it now...

"Jason Varitek at bat, here comes the pitch, swing, foul ball. This foul ball brought to you by State Farm..."

Where will it end?

Interesting Observation

I noticed that the drive-up ATM at my bank has instructions in braille. That's scary.

Speaking of Funerals

~ October 15, 2007 at 8:55 (Views: 38 )

A brief preamble to this rant:

You know you've reached middle age when you switch from FM to AM during your daily commute.

<rant>

I listen to KLOO-AM every day on my way to work and this morning I heard a spot for McHenry Funeral Home. Oh, this baby was a real gem. The soothing music, the low, soothing voice going on and on about "the love of a family..." Seriously, just about every sentence - The love of a family, blah, blah, blah. The love of a family, blah, blah, blah. The love of a family, blah, blah, blah. The love of a family never grows old. The love of a family just grows . . . I wanted to reach through the radio and punch the guy in the sack. Friggin' funeral homes and their over priced pine boxes and hushed tones and black caddys. If my family loves me they'll have a big party then cremate my ass and sprinkle the ashes on a beach around the palm tree nearest the shore so that I'll be washed out to sea when the tide comes in and out.

Now THIS is one helluva coupon...

Old Sly is Back . . .

~ September 25, 2007 at 11:50 (Views: 34 )

...and "old" is the operative word. I must say, this movie looks to be quite a splatter fest:
